DJI Air 3S Review: Pricing and Features

A New Drone with Dual Cameras and Nighttime Features

DJI has launched its latest drone, the DJI Air 3S, for both travel photography fans and pros.

Dual Cameras for Anytime Shooting

This new drone comes with two cameras: a main 1-inch-CMOS camera and a 70mm medium tele camera. These cameras can capture amazing details in tricky lighting, shooting in 10-bit color and with a dynamic range of up to 14 stops.

The primary camera, boasting 50MP, can record 4K/60fps HDR and 4K/120fps videos, perfect for low-light environments like sunsets or nighttime scenes. The secondary camera, with 48MP resolution and 3x optical zoom, is great for portraits and close-ups due to its ability to create cinematic effects.

Enhanced Safety Features

A standout aspect of the Air 3S is its improved obstacle detection. It uses LiDAR for front sensors and combines infrared and vision sensors for full omnidirectional obstacle awareness, making it safer to fly at night when drones usually struggle. “The DJI Air 3S takes our Air Series to new heights by offering professional features like dual primary cameras and omnidirectional obstacle sensing,” said Ferdinand Wolf, DJI’s Product Experience Director.

The drone also features an advanced Smart RTH (Return-to-Home) system, ensuring safe returns even without GPS or during nighttime flights.

People often find new technology both exciting and challenging at the same time.

Positive Reviews on Performance and Safety

Reviews are mostly positive, praising the Air 3S for its flexibility and capabilities. TechRadar notes that it is “a slightly greater version of the Air 3” and suggests it for those who want multiple cameras without spending as much as they would on the Mavic 3 Pro. According to them, the Air 3S offers excellent camera performance, safe flying, and long battery life, making it a smart purchase.

Engadget pointed out the new LiDAR feature, which aids in obstacle detection at night. Steve Dent stated, “The Air 3S is DJI’s most technologically advanced drone yet thanks to the LiDAR sensor, updated 1-inch camera, and ActiveTrack 360 subject tracking,” applauding its safety features and image quality.

Specifications and Price Details

  • Flight time: Up to 45 minutes
  • Battery: 4,276mAh
  • Internal storage: 42GB
  • Video transmission: 10-bit at 1080p/60fps up to 20 km

The basic DJI Air 3S (DJI RC-N3) is priced at $1,099. For those wanting more, there are two Fly More Combos, costing $1,399 and $1,599, with extra batteries and accessories for longer flying sessions.

The Air 3S, priced below $1,600 with all extras, shows the difference between DJI’s budget-friendly options and pricier drones from US manufacturers. Despite some lawmakers calling for restrictions on DJI due to security issues, many service providers find the Air 3S appealing for its functionality, making it a strong choice in spite of these challenges.

Combining top-notch cameras, safety features, and easy controls, the DJI Air 3S stands out as a top pick for photography lovers and professionals. As ZDNet states, “The Air 3S is as close to a professional-grade drone as you can get, considering that it is less than half the price of DJI’s Mavic 3 lineup.” It’s perfect for capturing beautiful landscapes or creating cinematic videos.
